Biokineticist
Overview
Faircape Health Institute is seeking an experienced Biokineticist to join their developing Longevity and Preventative Health Centre. The role involves using advanced assessment tools and technologies to assess physical capacity and develop personalized interventions in a multidisciplinary clinical environment.
Requirements
- Relevant qualification in Biokinetics from an accredited tertiary institution
- Current and active registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Biokineticist
- Relevant post-qualification experience in the assessment of physical and functional capacity and the development and delivery of individualised exercise programmes
- Strong knowledge of exercise physiology, exercise prescription, functional assessment, strength and conditioning principles, and chronic disease risk management
- Experience working directly with adult patients or clients across different levels of health, fitness, and functional capacity
- CPD compliant
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive biokinetic, physical performance, and functional assessments
- Utilise advanced assessment technologies and equipment to objectively measure strength, balance, movement, cardiovascular fitness, and functional capacity
- Interpret assessment and performance data to identify physical limitations, functional risks, and areas for optimisation
- Establish measurable and individualised physical performance and functional targets
- Develop highly personalised exercise and physical activity programmes based on assessment findings, medical considerations, and individual goals
- Implement structured interventions aimed at improving strength, cardiovascular fitness, mobility, balance, body composition, metabolic health, and physical resilience
- Apply a closed-loop approach to patient management through assessment, identification of needs, personalised prescription, measurable target setting, reassessment, and ongoing programme adaptation
- Use objective data and technology to monitor progress and evaluate patient outcomes
- Conduct structured reassessments and adapt interventions according to measurable changes in performance and functional capacity
- Work with older adults and individuals with chronic disease risk factors, established chronic conditions, functional limitations, or rehabilitation needs
- Educate and guide patients on exercise, movement, physical activity, and sustainable behavioural change
- Collaborate closely with medical practitioners, physiotherapists, dieticians, rehabilitation specialists, and other members of the multidisciplinary team
- Contribute to the development, testing, and refinement of exercise, assessment, and functional health protocols and clinical guidelines for the Longevity Centre
- Assist in establishing assessment standards, measurable outcomes, and progression criteria across programmes
- Identify opportunities to incorporate emerging exercise technologies, assessment tools, and new approaches into the programme
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive clinical documentation and outcome data
- Remain informed on developments in exercise science, exercise technology, physical performance, and preventative healthcare
- Ensure all assessments and interventions remain ethical, patient-centred, and within professional scope of practice
